One of the most significant archaeological finds in the world, this amazing museum features more than 7,000 detailed, life-sized clay figures of warriors, chariots and horses arranged in formations, ready to accompany the emperor into battle in the afterlife. An incredible feat of ancient artistry and engineering, every figure has completely different face, hairstyle, expression, gesture, clothing and weapon. Discovered by farmers after being buried for over 2,000 years, it is now a World Cultural Heritage site.

The museum is huge, and includes large vaults and exhibition halls. Xian (previously known as “Chang’an”) is over 3,000 years old, and offers hundreds of other historical sites, including the Wild Goose Pagoda, Emperor Qin Museum, Neolithic Banpo Village, Huaqing Pool, and ancient City Walls.
Helpful Advice
The Xian area is known for its mild climate and beautiful scenery. Best seasons to visit are Autumn and Spring. Bicycles can be rented near the old city wall, which has less visitors in late afternoon.
